Front panel lights up, but the dishes don't get washed. The dishwasher makes noise like it's trying, but it's as dry as a bone inside the washer. It will go completely thru the washing cycle without water going in to the dishwasher.

Here are your parts Replacement parts for MAYTAG MDBTT79AWS DISHWASHER- UNDERCOUNTER | AppliancePartsPros.com[COLOR="DarkRed"]It will go completely thru the washing cycle without water going in to the dishwasher.[/COLOR] That would be normal as the unit has no way of knowing when water is in it. Check the float (Item 21 in Section 6) on the overfill assembly. Sometimes it can get stuck in the up position. If it is then usually cleaning it will fix the problem. Remove the kick plate and check the overfill (float) switch. If the overfill switch is being activated, check for 120 volts across the fill valve when it should be on. If there is no voltage, check across the fill valve/overfill switch (they are wired in series). If there is no voltage there, then the control board is probably toast. If there is voltage, then check across the overfill switch. If there is voltage across the switch then the switch is shot. If there is 120 volts across the fill valve then either the fill valve needs replacing or it's filter needs cleaning. There is a screen filter built into the input side of the valve. Remove the valve from the unit and check/clean the screen filter. Do not permanently remove the screen filter from the valve as it is there to keep crud out of the valve which could hold it open and cause a flood. |

Check the float (Item 21 in Section 6) on the overfill assembly. Sometimes it can get stuck in the up position. If it is then usually cleaning it will fix the problem.
Do I need to remove the outlet (3-5), wash impellar assmbly (3-6), and the pump filter (3-7) to get to the float (6-21)?

I do not think so.
Just remove the kick plate so you can see the overfill switch. |

I do not think so.
Just remove the kick plate so you can see the overfill switch. Denman, I'm trying to locate the "kick plate" with no success. Is it known by another name? Thanks for your help in this matter. Randy

No just remove the kick plate so you can see under the unit.
The float switch should be close to the front. |
