Rank: Member Groups: Registered Joined: 5/28/2011(UTC) Posts: 4		It won't spin and produces a burning rubber smell. So, I'm guessing a loose belt. I've done a little research, so I did the following tests. The washer pumps water. The washer will spin the motor on spin cycle. I can free hand spin the tub from underneath. I'm not an expert, but it does not seem too much effort is required. The motor mount does move freely. But. In my opinion, it can not move enough to cause enough friction to engage belt and then turn tub. What other tests shall I perform to determine root cause? New belts? I've never replaced them. Thanks for your help in advance.

If the brakes do not release then you have the problem you are describing. Also, the brake spring has 200 lbs of pressure so you really need to be careful getting into the brake package.
