Hi,
I have a Monogram Refrigerator/Freezer. The refrigerator stay at 40 degrees when the temp guage is set at 5. The freezer side fluctuates between 5 and 20 degrees. The temp guage for the freezer side doesn't have an impact on the freezer temperature. A repairman cleaned the coils and thought the evaporator fan might need to be replaced. When I checked, the fan seemed to be generating good airflow. Anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks,
Doug

Check under the bottom drawer in the freshfood section, is there water on the floor?

Since there's only one compressor, what does the freezer temp control do?

Freezer temp control regulates the temp in the freezer, the fresh food control controls the temp in the freshfood. You get your cold air for the freshfood from the freezer via a damper door that opens and closes depending on freshfood temps.

Take out the icebucket, and tap on the freezer ceiling, does it sound hollow?

1 - It doesn't sound hollow above the ice bucket. could the damper be stuck in a partially open position? If so, how can I check?
2 - He cleaned the main coil on top of the refrigerator. There's an evaporator fan that's blowing across the coil. There seems to be good air flow.
Thanks,
Doug

If it does not sound hollow, but solid, there maybe 2 things going on.
1. Your evaperator is icing up because of a failed defrost drain pan heater, causing airflow throught the coils to be restricted, thus warmer temps more noticeable in the freshfood section....This is a rather difficult and expensive fix. An icing kit is needed and about 1-2 hours depending on the experiance of the tech doing it.
or
2. Best case senario the back side of the evaperator is iced up because of an airleak where the suction line of the evap enters the freezer section. Some permagum will fix this problem...
But, if you tapped on the ceiling and it sounded solid, the first scenario is most likely. Usually though you will notice water somewhere it shouldn't be. Like icicles in the freezer section or water on the floor of the refer.

If it is in need of the icing kit, you would be looking at around $400 to $500 for GE to do it.
