I have a Whirlpool GU1200XTLQ1 that is in perfect working order. However, it is white and all of our other appliances are black. We want to order the parts to change the panel and control panel to black, but are not sure what parts are needed. Can anyone help?

Nat -

Thanks for responding so quickly. The DW works great and I hate to just get a new one for the sake of the color. $250 and we get as many more years out of it as we can, rather than at least $500 for a new one. Over a grand if I get my way and get DW drawers. Someday....someday I'll have that kitchen of my dreams! :)

Do you know if this is easy to do? I'd like get it done by Christmas and was hoping to just order the parts and have Mr. Chiefdog do it. He's handy, but he's definitely not Mr. Maytag :)

Let me know your thoughts if you don't mind.

He can do it I have no doubt. If I can fix one of these things I know he can change the panels. Use the breakdown posted above and you can see how it goes together.

Or do it for under $100.00 by purchasing the Control Panel ~$75.00 only
and painting the metal parts.

All you need is some sandpaper or emery cloth 200 or better grit, paint thinner or varsol and a good metal spray can paint.

Remove the parts
Wash with soap and water, dry
Wipe them down with varsol gets rid of any grease/oil, dry
Sand them just to take off the shiny surface, help the new paint adhere
Wipe down with varsol removes any left over grease and get rid of the sanding dust.
Paint with the new colour

Lots of light coats rather than one heavy coat which will drip.
Also make your self a spray area with cardboard to catch the overspray.

Should be lots of help on the net on spray painting technique
Also do not put back together for at least 24 hours, the paint will be too soft and will scratch easily. Even though it feels dry it takes a week or so to fully cure.
