Ice maker has worked perfectly until 2 days ago. Now, when a cup is placed against the lever to dispense ice, you can hear the ice fall thru the chute but it collects above the chute door instead of falling thru the door into the cup.

I opened the freezer door and you can see ice cubes that were dispensed sitting in the chute on top of the chute door. I can reach thru the ice and push the door open and the ice will fall into my cup. But for some reason the chute door is no longer opening freely on its own.

This had led me to believe that the chute door is controlled by some kind of mechanism - but what that mechanism is, I am truly lost, as I always thought the chute door opened simply from the pressure of ice cubes falling against it.

So what controls the chute door and can it be fixed?

Remove the drip tray, take out the fountain screws. You will probably find a broken flapper spring.

Well, there were more than 4 screws to get to the door assembly. The spring looks fine, it pushes the door closed if you open it. And there was nothing broken that I could find. There is a small cylinder switch with a white plastic arm attached to it. The arm engages a bar that is attached to the door. It appears that the plastic arm is supposed to move forward and push on the bar which would then open the door. But the arm does not move if you push the ice dispenser.

Is the arm/switch the culprit? If so, can it be replaced?

As an aside, in the process of shifting things around to get to the door assembly, the light no longer works.
