The evaporator fan has been noisy for the last couple years and after reading several blogs checked and sure enough it was not running. I replaced it today being careful to connect the wires as before and it's still not running. There was some frost and ice on the evaporator, but it was not excessive and none any where near the evaporator fan. What's my next step?

Looks like the evaporator fan pulls power through the heating element. Note: It only runs when the compressor and it's fan are on and the temperature is below 20 degrees F (closing temperature for the defrost thermostat). Unplug the unit and short the fan Delay Bypass Test Plug. Plug the unit in and see if the fan fires up, if not the Defrost Thermostat is probably toast or it is not getting down to 20 F. If it does not fire up unplug the unit and check the heating element, should be about 30 ohms, check the defrost thermostat, should be 0 ohms. Also if the defrost thermostat is deformed replace it as water has entered it which van cause it to be intermittent. File Attachment(s): BV20.pdf (262kb) downloaded 45 time(s).

When I pushed the connection together and plugged the refrigerator back in, it fired right up. I must have dislodged it while installing the evaporator fan. Thanks for the tip on inspecting the thermostat, that was the problem and easily fixed.
