Hello,

The door latch suddenly became loose and just flaps up and down without any resistance. I attempted to remove the inner door panel, but it won't come off. All the torx screws are out, I can pull the inner panel up but only so far. I tried sliding it side to side and up and down, but can't get it separated from the door. I don't want to exert too much force so as not to break something I can't see. How do I get the panel off so I can access the latch and switch? Thank you

Scratch what I said ..The inner panel is removable and the control panel is held on by clips on outer edges where you will just have the frame but you should be able to leave it all attached and just remove inner panel

you kinda have to jiggle it in a downward motion if it has the wax motor operating dispenser

What is a wax motor operating dispenser? Is this a soap dispenser? My soap dispenser is just a plastic moulded part of the inner panel, with a lid that snaps in place. So, are you still saying that I have to giggle the inner panel downward, in order for it separate from the door? Are there any other screws I may have missed, outside of the ones around the top and sides of the panel? Will I be able to ascertain what problem the latch has and why it's just loose? Thanks for the response.

if you look at the diagram there is a wax motor that opens the soap dispenser and dispenses the jet dry and the panel is probably hanging up on that after the screws are removed around the outer edge the panel comes off thats it nothing else you need a whole new latch assy it's broken

Hi v2k04,

I'm sorry, but which diagram are you referring to? My Whirlpool is a model #DU9406WDB3, and I can't find that number on this web site. Which diagram would you have me look at?

I'm sorry but I don't understand why you are having so much trouble removing the inner door panel they come right off after removing all the screws with little or no resistance Unless one of the mouning stems on the control panel broke and the screw wont come out, Then you just apply pressure or shove a pair of needle nose and grab hold of the piece thats broke so it doesn't turn while unscrewing it. The motor is #17 but the shaft on the motor is vertical but it really doesn't keep one from removing the panel. It takes all of about 5 minutes to remove the screws and remove the panel I have done it a kazillion times and have never had a problem

Well, I was finally able to remove the inner door panel. It just would not separate totally from the door. I began exerting more force than I thought was necessary, and suddenly the whole door just came apart. Don't know what was holding it. I examined the latch assembly and can't see anything broken. I can hear the micro switch clicking when moving the latch in and out. I expected to see obvious damage but there isn't any. Hate replacing parts when I can't see if the old part is bad. Have you seen this before? Do still feel the latch is bad? Thanks.
