Thanks for the quick reply, I just figured out that it pulled up in place. However, I did notice that the impeller was in two pieces, so it looks like I will have to order one anyways. It appears that the top piece with the fins sheared away from the bottom part. Any hints on how to remove the broken one?

Thankfully I found this forum and thread -- I had the same problem and after following the directions in this thread fixed my dishwasher. It is working better than ever now that the filter is clean... Thank you so much Gene!! :) :) :)

My dishes are no longer getting clean, so I tried the above remedy. After taking it apart, the filter (6) doesn't look bad. #4 on the diagram looked a little dirty, but I don't know if that is important, or if it is even possible to clean it. Maybe I have a completely different problem.
If I open the door while the dishwasher is running, I do see water falling so at least one of the sprayers is working.
Is there some way to check if both the sprayers are spinning and spraying? Any other ideas about why my dishes are no longer getting clean?

Hellooooo
This forum is saving our dishwasher - we think....
Problem definitely the filters - oh my goodness - there is stuff caked on everywhere... It must have been there for a long time, before we even got the machine...
Stuff is so caked on and hard, it is taking a long time to get it all cleaned up...
Part #4 on the diagram (filter assembly) - can it be taken apart? The reason I ask is, there is caked on stuff in it, blocking the very fine screen openings.... I mean, it is really full...
Your thoughts are very much appreciated...
Ken and Anya

Ken and Anya,
This part is not serviceable but you can soak it with white vinegar for a few hours. It'll dissolve all this stuff.

This forum really saved us spending 400-500 on a new machine. Thank you so so much! All the parts are clean, and the dishwasher is humming like it should. Oh yeah, plus the dishes are coming out cleaner than ever before...

I have a GE Dishwasher Model # PDW7800J10BB
Do I need to clean a filter located in the door also? Thanks for your help!

I have a GE PDW7800J10BB. Do I need to follow the same instructions? I have been to the GE site and cannot find in the user manual where all of the parts are listed.
