Hey everyone....thanx for letting me in the forum! I have a Maytag SAV4655EWQ washer and it has had the "jet engine" sound while spinning for quite some time now. I've learned to deal with it but now i want to replace the spin bearing and i was wondering if anyone can give me step by step instructions on how to do it. I'm pretty handy with taking things apart and putting them back together. (10 yrs worth of auto mechanics helps.) I did manage to find a write up on how to replace the spin bearing on a different Maytag washer and i was wondering if it would be similar to my washer. This is the link to it. maytag atlantis washer repair spin bearing thats noisy, diy Any help would be much appreciated!!! :)

You may need a spin bearing if the lip seal has been leaking for a long time but, it's more likely you need a triple lip seal kit.

This is an ambishious project. You must have spanner wrench #22038313 or equiv. to remove inner tub. If you have that tool let me know and I'll take the time to post the instructions you need. Keep in mind that the tool and part combined will cost you around $200.00 dollars. It may be more cost effective to call a pro with triple lip experience.

So i take it my washer is different internally from the one in that write up? or are they pretty much the same? and do i really have to have that tool or can i just use a pair of channel lock pliers?

I hate to break the news to you but that machine isn't worth repairing You can go to the trouble of putting the hub and seal kit spin bearing, belt etc and it will just happen again the plastic tub flexes to much and won't hold a tub seal for more than a couple years, if you're lucky, you're better off pitchin it and going out and buying another one. If you want a good machine similar to that get a Speed Queen They have a metal tub and a 3 year parts labor warranty. The Atlantis is a different design and different seal.

Remove the agitator and take a look. Channel locks will work for the plastic nut but not the metal one underneath. There is always more than one solution to any problem. Keep in mind that in addition to removing the tub nut you must be able to get it back on tightly.

I have no idea what you're reading but all those washers are the same mechanically.

From the write up i found and posted a link to it doesnt seem like it would be too hard. Just time consuming. So once i remove the agitator what should i be looking for? I already removed the fabric softener cup and the bolt underneath that but it seems like the agitator is stuck on there somehow. It has never been off since i bought it.

You're going to have a hell of a time breaking that machine down as water has corroded everything and most everything related to the water seal and bearings is gonna come apart hard be prepared to break it inpieces taking it apart. The spin bearing has probably welded itself to the tranny shaft and it will more than likely need cut, and you will also more than likely need a gear puller to get the hub off. If you think it's an easy job you might want to rethink it. Depending how long its been howling and leaking will determine how easy it comes apart.Unless you have experience doing a job like this you're in for lots of surprizes the agitator pulls straight up after the bolt is removed.

Verify you got the right tub seal there are two different ones for your machine one for the series 10 and one for the series 14 and above. The first 2 numbers of the serial number designates what series the machine is the triple lip seal would be for series 10 W10116791 and the seal kit for series 14 would be W10116790

SAV is "Searcy", not Atlantis. You're right about the quality of the machine, though. BTW, Maybe I'm weird, but I actually enjoy working on them.
