Here are your parts
Replacement parts for MAYTAG MDE5500AYW DRYER- ELE | AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is a service manual
16023110 Maytag Sloped Front Dryer Repair Service Manual - ApplianceDigest.com
You have to join the site to download the manual but it is free and this is a very good site for manuals and other info for the appliance repair DIYer.

Yes it is possible you have a bad control board.
Though it is strange that you get exactly the same results on both boards.

I would check the power in the unit. L1 to Neutral and l2 to Neutral both should be 120 volts. Also L1 to L2 should be 240 volts.

Check the ground that goes to J4 on the control board.

Try removing power for 5 minutes or so to see if it will reset.

Try getting into diagnostics.
