one of the burners does not work consistently.
i've replaced the burner itself, but that isn't cutting it.
sometimes it works and others it doesn't
do i need to replace the switch itself or the little connector under the top panel?
how do i get the side panel (under the knobs) off?

how do i get the side panel (under the knobs) off? Richtfan, Is this a cooktop burner or an oven burner ? If it's a top burner, are you sure you have the terminals of the burner, inserted into the burner recepatcle and the receptacle itself is OK ? Based on what little information we have, you should be able to lift the cooktop with little or no problems and have access to the switches, wiring and receptacles. As for the control panel, once you remove the burner knobs, you'll see the screws that hold the switch and the console in place, you dont really need to remove it, for the checks,reoairs you'll be doing. this is a slide in oven with electrical burners on top.
I do not know if the receptacles are ok. That's the problem I believe, but I'm not sure.
This thing is 22 yrs old, and I've never done anything to it except replace the burners themselves.

How do I get the panels off of this unit? Specifically, if I need to access either the infinite switches or the receptacles underneath?

thanks for your help. Richtfan, As I stated in my previous posts, as best I can tell, you should be able to raise the cook top assembly, after all these years it may be a bit stiff, you may need a putty knife to slip under the cooktop, to Raise it, thats based on what little information we have. :) :) :)

i figured it out. take out the burners and drip pans, and there is one screw for each burner holding down the top panel.
ran into one more issue though. went and bought a new receptacle. got home and couldn't get the other one off. the little phillips head screw was basically rusted on. tried pliers and everything else, but it isn't coming off.

Or remove the receptacle and wires, from the mounting clip. :) :) :)

That's what I started doing this morning. I have to get a new sheet metal screw today and set it up. I did get it tested though, and the receptacle did the trick.
