Scenario,

Machine works fine on all cycles but when you take out the clothes, even though there is no water left in the tub and water has been pumped out, are wetter than normal and they take longer to dry.

Older machine with analog controls.

Does this unit have a two speed electric motor? If so is the higher speed responsible for spin cycle? If it is only a one speed unit, since the cycle works, I do not think it is the timer.
Re the belt - it is a tad on the floppy side but could it be slipping under high speed spin load? Is there a tension adjustment pulley on these machines ala that on timing belt on cars?

Is it hard to replace the belt on such a unit ?- looks nasty. The cabinet contents can only be gotten at from either the back or underneath.

If it's the machine I'm thinking it is, the belt is alittle tricky, but not bad. To change it lay the machine on it's front.....This is a single speed motor, and if memory serves me right, the adjustment for the belt is done by moving the transmission to the left as your looking in the tub. Is there oil present?

There are 3 7/16 nuts on the motor mounting plate, I loosen all 3 and put my hammer handle between the transmission and the motor plate and pull to the rear of the washer, tighten the nuts while holding tention on the motor.(a little tricky):)
