Hello,
On about April 2004, I had a tech come out to fix said microwave as it was under home warranty, and it had a burnt out HV Diode, along with a bad fuse. 3.5 years later I replaced the HV Capacitor myself as I am a retired Navy Electronics tech. That repair lasted about 10 months. It appears that the capacitor is going bad again. Removed capacitor, shook it and was able to hear the electrolyte inside. Re-installed cap and it works for now, but I know that won't last as that is what happened 10 months ago. My question is twofold. Did I just happen to get a weak capacitor, or is the replacement diode not rated correctly and allowing too much current through the HV capacitor. Browsing through the associated parts website, the HV Diode has "special handling" and I am suppose to cal a certain phone number.
Your thoughts? I know microwave ovens are cheap, but this is an over the counter model, which are much more expensive!:eek:

I always thought all microwave diodes are the same it dont matter who's diode you put in who's microwave they're all the same.Connections may vary but I think it would be more related to quality control and ....which barrel of parts are they getting thier Caps out of? the "good" barrel? the "better" barrel? or the "best" barrel? Stuff also doesn't last as long as it used to and that applys to everything.

Thanks v2k04 I agree with you regarding the diode. However, my parts search on the .9uf, 2100 VAC Capacitor ranges in price from about $12.00 to about $180.00!! I could understand some variance in price, but this is crazy! There is no guaranty that the most expensive is the best! Any thoughts?

Ya 180 dollars is way out of line.Either they sell a lot of them and they are getting it or it's made of gold. Lots of parts, in parts houses, are hi priced if they sell a lot of it. Something that doesn't sell is lower priced so they can get rid of it and stock the shelf with something else. $45 Hi Retail if its made in Japan a little less if its Korean.lol Thats just like Wa****s or any Super Drug store They sell a hell of a lot of antibiotics and pain pills, and those two drugs are usually higher than any other. Which brings ya back to the microwave that frigidaire may have problems with their capacitors being low grade and the parts houses are making a killing or it's just bad luck or you got one built on a friday or Monday. or. The other one got replaced with whatever they had to save money and get it up and running in a hurry or.......J/K Sometimes the manufacturers, field test units as they sell them
