My dryer was not heating properly so I did continuity tests which revealed that the cycle thermostat was bad. I jumped the two purple wires to see if it would work and it did. I ordered the new part, when it came I went to start it while jumped and it shorted out and smoked. Now it will not run unless you hold in the start button, but will then immediately start to smoke and the two purple wires get real hot. any idea what can be done to repair the problem or part to replace. i was thinking about retaping all the wires because there seems to little tiny burn holes in a few of them.

Well the dryer would not heat so I started process of elimination with the thermostats, fuse, heating element etc. by checking their continuity which revealed that the cycle thermostat was bad as it was open. I read that to insure that this was the problem, all I had to do was put the two purple wires that went to it, together. I did and the heat started to work. I turned it off and ordered the part, cycle thermostat. Before it got here My girlfriend tried to dry a load but the dryer would not start. Before I put the new part in I wanted to see why it was not starting, it turned out to be a bad door switch, that I temporarily jumped, and the dryer started up, with the two purple wires still jumped. However it started to smoke immediately around the main power circuit area and the purrple wires got very hot. Now the start button will not stay in and must be held in to get action, but it smokes immediately and I stopped. There is also visible little burn holes or marks on a few of the wires. I was gonna take them apart individually and put electric tape on any and all visible marks. I dont want to put the cycle thermostat in so I dont burn it up. Also while trying to start it jumped, it would only start on very hot dry cycle.
