Our Whirlpool dishwasher keeps stopping mid cycle. I replaced the timer, but still the same. I checked underneath and noticed water leaking. I replaced impeller kit, which had previously been damaged from a chopstick. Noticed that old impeller was cracked which probably caused leak through motor shaft. Leak has stopped, but back to original problem - water fills up, and cycle starts washing, but soon stops. Starts up again after a long wait(5 - 20 minutes). Heater element continues to heat and timer stops when the wash cycle stops. It sits idle with element on until it decides to kick in again. Is it possible the cycling thermostat on top of the motor got damaged by water and is now faulty, or what else could it be?

I disconnected the cycling Tstat and the hi-limit Tstat, and it's still doing the same thing.
Any help would be great.

Remove the bottom panel and check if the motor is hot at time when it stops. Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool dishwasher Model DU910PFGQ1Gene.

Thanks for reply Gene. First I need to make a correction - the timer does continue to run when the motor stops washing. Should it still be able to run when the Tstat is disconnected?
I ran it until the washing stopped and felt the motor. The frame of the motor was warm, but the center of the bottom (below shaft) was too hot to keep my fingers on. It stayed off for about 6 or 7 minutes and then came on. Went off again after about a minute.Frame hotter this time - could only keep fingers on for about 5 seconds. Center of bottom very hot. Stayed off about 10 minutes this time. Think it's the motor? I can also hear a slight gravely sound that might be from the motor. When I had the impeller off I could feel a slight roughness when turning the shaft, although it was tight.

The motor is bad. No doubt about it. Water came inside and caused damage to the bearing(s). The pump & motor assembly has to be replaced now to fix this problem. - The part number for the pump & motor assembly is AP3776341 Gene.

OK thanks. So, I just replaced the impeller kit ( AP3115180) two days ago. Can I get away with changing the motor, O-ring( AP2920714), and pump gasket ( AP2908993) now? Do I need centering tool and tstat as well?

Yes, you can do this way and I would recommend to use the centering tool to install the pump seal properly. I do not think you need the thermostat at this time (if it's not open).
One more thing. Moneywise the difference between the pump & motor assembly and all parts needed to replace just the motor is about $30. The whole new pump & motor assembly will make this repair much more dependable.

Thanks very much for your help Gene. I wish I had of checked here in the beginning. May go out and get a new washer, but I hate to throw stuff out. Thanks again.
