Hello, I posted the below question about a week ago and recieved no response. I called AppliancePros and was told to re-post it. Can someone please help?? Thanks.

Hi. My microwave recently stopped heating. It seems to operate normally, except a buzzing sound, but just doesn't heat. It was manufactured in march 2003. Can you please advise how I should troubleshoot? I am a mechanical engineer - but only average with electronics (don't yet know how to test things like diodes and capacitors). I do have a good multimeter. I'd like to repair it myself if possible.

Most likely the magnetron has gone bad and could cause damage to the high voltage diode. Check the high voltage diode as described here. Do not forget to discharge the high voltage capacitor first (the instructions in the above link).
