I believe there is something wrong causing lint to remain in the wash water, and then stick to the clothes being washed. The diagram on Searspartsdirect.com lists a filter ring. I believe this filter is supposed to be self-cleaning by a process of reversing the direction of water flow every wash. It seems to me that during the wash cycle, wash water would circulate and flow back into the tub from the same place where the fill water enters. During that passage, the wash water would pass through a filter just before being returned to the tub. What could cause the water to not circulate? Pump seems OK because the tank empties just fine.
Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Water is recirculated by the pumping vanes on the bottom of the agitator, which force water up and through the lint filter at the bottom of the basket. There are a lot of grease, old soap and sediment accumulated under the basket. Your washer needs cleaning. I would recommend to use Washer Magic to clean it now and keep it clean in future. Gene.

LINT is a result of POOR washing habits, washing your cloths for to long, or mixing the wrong fabrics in the same load will result in a large build-up of lint.

By "basket" are you referring to the tub? If not, what basket?

Thanks for responding. Yes, there is plenty of lint. There was a time when the lint apparently got filtered out of the wash water. What has changed, and what is the fix? rca
