how complicated is it to replace the filter housing and water lines? Can you provide instructions?

Turn the water off to the the refrigerator fill valve. Turn power off to the refrigerator. Remove the filter from the housing. Remove the kick plate grille from the bottom front of unit. Remove the 2 screws attaching the filter housing to the frame and slide the housing out towards you, then disconnect the tubes, reverse the procedure to install. The tubing repalcement is a bit more difficult, only because you have to move the refrigerator out to access and replace the tubing from the fill valve to the filter. :) :) :)

should I buy new lines? The old ones seem ok. Is it that simple to replace the lines?BMW,
You press down on the plastic ring that encompasses the plastic tube,and pull out on the tube where it enters the housing, basically, it's a compression fit.
Make sure you insert the tube as far as possible, while pressing down on the ring. release the ring and give a slight tug on the tube, to make sure the ring seats tight and seals. In your case, you could cut the tubes off at the fittings since you're replacing the housing. Good Luck,

:) :) :) __________________ Carlos, That's going to be your decision, But as long as the tubing is not cracked, brittle or kinked, you don't need to replace the tubes. Just make sure the insertion end of the tubes are straight and clean, and follow the instructions above and you'll do fine. :) :) :)

I receive the housing, but before installing I tried to get the filter in place, Yet once I inserted the filter all the way in the housing, this will not turn at all. I requested a replacemente for the part which was sent proptly. But once again the filter would go all the way in but i am unable to turn it to make it fit tight. Is there anything I should do? The filter is exactly the same as the one I had before. Am I doing anything wrong? Thanks for your help.

Carol, Here are the instuctions for installing and flushing the water filter and system, it's probably something minor you're missing. Style 1: Behind the base grille filter
1. Remove the base grille (see “To remove the base grille”
section). Rotate the cartridge counterclockwise to a vertical position and pull the filter cartridge out.
NOTE: There will be water in the cartridge. Some spilling may
occur
2. Take the new cartridge out of its packaging and remove protective cover from o-rings.
3. Push the new filter cartridge into the base until it stops.
Rotate the cartridge clockwise to a horizontal position. Flush
the water system (see “Flushing the Water System After
Replacing Filter” later in this section).
Style 2: Through the base grille filter
1. Locate the water filter cartridge cap in the front base grille. Rotate the cap counterclockwise to a vertical position and pull the cap and filter cartridge out through the base grille.
NOTE: There will be water in the cartridge. Some spilling may
occur.
2. Remove the cartridge cap by sliding it off the end of the old
cartridge. The cap will slide to the left or right. DO NOT
DISCARD THE CAP.
3. Take the new cartridge out of its packaging and remove
protective cover from o-rings.
4. Slide the cartridge cap onto the new cartridge.
5. With cartridge cap in the vertical position, push the new filter
cartridge into the base grille until it stops. Rotate the cartridge
cap clockwise to a horizontal position. Flush the water
system filter.
Flushing the Water System After Replacing Filter
Use a sturdy container to depress the water dispenser bar until
the water begins to flow. Flush the water system by dispensing
and discarding 2 to 3 gal. (8 to 12 L) of water. Cleaning the
system will take approximately 6 to 7 minutes and will help clear
air from the line. Additional flushing may be required in some
households.
NOTE: As air is cleared from the system, water may spurt out of
the dispenser.
