Refrigerator side works good stays at temp (had to replace thermistor last month). Freezer stays at temp, 0*F for a day or two. Then temp goes up above 40*F and melts all the ice. It will the stay at this temp. If I unplug the fridge for a few minutes, plug back in all works good for a few more days.

I replaced the two thermistors, coil-defrost and compartment, and this did not help.

I did the fan check procedure found in the forum, thanks appliancepartspros, and the fan and board check out OK. The fan runs after the reset just fine but is not running when there is troubles.

I have 3 temp sensors I placed in the freezer, the coil will go to -15*F when running, 40* when broken. The ice maker area goes from -5* to 40* when not running. The temp at the compartment sensor agrees with my sensor and will go from 0* to 20*.

Coils are clean. Took out the ice maker because all my ice was melting
thinking the ice maker heater was sticking on but this did not help.

Coils are look good and there is no ice on them, just a little frost.

I dont know much about the defrost cycle. Could the defrost get stuck on? What turns it off, the temp at the coil thermistor? If so would the unplug reset this? I can complete any electrical test if I know what to test.

Could it be the control board?

Thanks all Brad

Doing a lot more looking around the web I think it might be the control board. Looks as if the GEs have this problem quite frequently.

Any advice before I spend $200 to trial and error?

Thanks Brad

PS wish I could fix title but cant find a way to change it

intermittentice -> intermittent ice

I just fixed one of these yesterday, same problem. Found bad wires to the evaporator thermistor and bad defrost thermostat.
Thermistor should read about 6.5 Kohm at room temperature

I replaced the 2 thermistors even after they checked out OK at the board plug. I have not looked at the evaporator thermistor. I will do this tonight.

Thank you for the reply Richappy, Brad
