My GE Profile dryer worked fine yesterday. I tried to dry a load today but the dryer won't start up. The light inside lights up but nothing else happens. No noise, nothing. I took the top apart to check for broken or frayed wires but I see nothing wrong. This is an electric dryer. Any thoughts?

Trash, what you most likely need is located on the heating element assembly. It is on the right side of it. It is a thermal fuse, that will shut the unit down. The top has to come off to get to it. You will have to look just behind the drum on the right side. It is about the size of a dime. The part # is WE4M137. But first flip your breaker off and on a few times, to be sure it is set. Of course if you have to replace the thermal fuse, unplug the dryer before you start. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

The first thing I would do is check the double circuit breaker for the dryer.

Here are the break down diagrams for the GE dryer Model DNXR473EW1WW

I wish I could help you. My dryer did the same thing (Kenmore Electric), but my light is out. The lightbulb is busted and kind of stuck inside the holder, for lack of a better word. I'm wondering if this is the cause of my problem. It had been working fine and then nothing.:(

linner40,

If you are looking for help to diagnose the problem with your dryer, post the complete model number of the dryer and a more specific description on the problem.

Lynne,

Nothing else but the light bulb?

Gene.
P.S. The model number you posted does not come up.
