I'm a novice at repairing appliances but through the help of the manual and sites like this I am thinking that I have narrowed my problem down to the thermostat. I tested my 2 thermostats this morning, the high limit and the normal. I'm not sure which is which but one tested at 1 ohms and the other didn't move at all. Is this telling me that one of my thermostat's is bad? And are they the same thermostat? If not how do I know which is which?

Yes the one that is open (no movement) is bad.

No they are not, take a look at Items 18 and 19 in Section 3 of the parts.
Looks like the hi-limit is on the left.

Thanks for the quick response, I was curious if I needed to take the thermostats off prior to running the continuity test? If not then I believe it is the hi limit thermostat as well. Now I just have to remember which wire goes to which thermostat. Does it matter? I was obviously getting in too much of a hurry:(

Yes it does. It does not matter which side of the thermostat the wires go to but you do have the correct two wires going to the correct thermostat.

The wiring diagram should help here.

I got the cycling thermostat yesterday, installed in 10 minutes and the dishwasher is humming along again. Thanks again.

You are welcome

And thanks for getting back to us. Now when others search for a similar problem they will see what actually worked instead of just suggestions about what could be the cause.

Well my humming dishwasher is on the fritz again. It was doing the same thing as before with no going to another cycle and I tested the new cycling thermostat and it was not showing a reading again.

I'm not too worried about getting a replacement part and will go ahead and do that through the site but wondered if something else may have contributed to the thermostat not working properly. If this will keep happening then I would hate to have to keep replacing the same thermostat

Could be that there is a problem with the control board pulling too much current through the thermostat or just a faulty replacement part.
I would also carefully check the wiring going to it just to be sure it is not shorting out anywhere.

I do not know what it is rated for. It would be hard to test unless you have an amp meter and it would probably have to be the clamp on type depending on the current.

I would replace it and see what happens since it is fairly cheap and this is the easiest.
