 My oven started to not work properly, then it wouldn't go on at all. I started to smell a faint smell of gas coming from the oven when I opened the door, so I shut the supply line in the back to off. The stove burners work fine, but when I turn the supply line on and use the top burners I can still smell a gas smell when I open the oven door. I had a repairman come to the house and he replaced the oven ignighter, turned the supply line on and turned the oven on and it lit so I paid him and he left. I noticed that later the smell was returning in the oven and shut off the supply line again. I called him and he has never returned my call, I'm going to have to fix the problem myself, it's already cost me $ 100. I need to find out what is causing it to leak gas in the oven, any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

You may want to call a local gas company to check the oven and pinpoint the gas leak. They have a special leak detectors and their service is free.

I called the National Grid gas company, they said they will not come to check my appliance for free, and said that I needed to call a plumber. They said they will come if there is a gas leak smell and shut off the main service, which I don't want, since I have already shut off the supply to the stove/oven. Is there any other suggestions on what might be causing a slight gas leak in the oven?

Without proper test with a gas leak detector it becomes just a guessing. You can try to tight all gas line connectors. You also can try "soap solution" gas leak test. Gene.
