I have a year and a half year old White-Westinghouse electric oven that is not producing heat from the bottom element. The broiler works as do all the burner elements. I have checked the element for 'burns' and have found one small area that seems to be slightly rough to touch compared to the rest of the element being smooth. I had thought at first that maybe a wire had become detached but am now thinking that the element blew? Is it hard to change. If I remove the screw and pull out from the back, do the wires just detach with a clip? It seems like such a short time for a new appliance to blow the element.

You should be able to check that element with a multi-meter for continuity, if you don't have one, if you see a obvious deformity in the element, most likely it's bad, its very easy to change, TURN POWER OFF TO UNIT, and unscrew the bracket on the element where it attaches to the inner oven cavity, slide it out s l o w l y so you don't pull the wire off and then then u have to go searching for them, have some needle nose pliers handy just in case you need to catch one, do one side at a time and voila', your done.
