My freezer seems fine, but the refrigerator side is only cooling to approx. 58 degrees....... I read some things online that lead me to believe changing out the thermistors and diffuser would solve my problem. I did that - but still doesn't work. I don't know where to go from here, but here are a couple of things that may interest you - I found them to be strange.
1. online they said that if I took out diffuser it would keep my fridge cooler until it was replaced, but it did not - same temp around 58 degrees even with diffuser taken out.
2. I currently have diffuser installed as required. Very little to no air seems to flow through the diffuser - UNTIL I happen to open the freezer side - then the air flows quite freely through the diffuser to the fridge...... when I shut the freezer door - air flow stops again??? Why?
I need help - where do i go from here to solve this problem?

Here is the parts breakdown. Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL KSRA25CNBL00 Refrigerator | AppliancePartsPros.comIs the vent between the freezer/fresh food sections clear in both sections. Item 4 in Section 2, I think? Is the evaporator fan running? It is required to circulate the cool air. See the attachment for the tech sheet. Try running the diagnostics. Just curious, how do you know that the air flow from the freezer to the fresh food stops when the door is closed? |

The evaporator fan is blowing - I took off back panel and it seems to be blowing fine. I did check the vent between freezer/fresh food sections and it has ice buiild up on it. What causes that? I have not run diagnostics yet....As for knowing that the air flow going through the diffuser - As I was trying to feel for air flow going through this part one of my kids came by and wanted something out of the freezer, I had my hand near the diffuser vent openings and felt very little if no air flow, then they opened the freezer door and it seemed to blow through the diffuser very noticeably. Just an observation.... not sure if that is important or not.

OK.
This would prompt me to check the grill between the two sides.
When the kids opened the freezer they allowed air into it and you had good air flow. When the freezer door is closed what it should be doing is pulling/circulating air through the grill from the fresh food side to give the air flow. |

the vent between the freezer/fresh food sections had ice built up on it, noticed on the refrigerator side. Item 4 in Section 2, I think? What causes that and how do I fix it? thanks.

Also, I have since emptied fridge and started to let the ice to melt. there was no ice on the back of freezer wall and the coils under the evaporator seemed slightly snowy, but no ice.

As far as the build up of ice in the vent this may just be because the fridge gets a lot of use.Every time a door is opened warm moist air enters the unit.
Most of the moisture will condense on the evaporator coils but some will also condense on other cold areas such as the vent.
Perhaps this has been building up over a long time and finally has caused a problem you noticed.
I would defrost it and see what happens.
I would have suspected that the fan was not circulating enough air but you said that it seems to run fine. |
