I have to replace the heater and the bimetal thermostat in my freezer. I have the new bimetal, but unlike the existing part it does not have the crimped ends. Instead, it has the wires exposed and they are only about 6 inches long. Can I simply cut the existing leads that are seated at the end of the wire harness and splice the new bimetal wires to those leads and wrap with electrical tape? Or is there a special crimp needed to do this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Absolutely, just use wire nuts, after you splice the new wire, I like to put a wad of RTV silicone into the top of the wire nut to prevent moisture entering
