Hi, my daughter called me last night stating her dryer is down. She loaded it as normal set it to medium heat and it run for about 2-4 minutes. The dryer stopped; she smelled "something" burning. Opened the dry nothing melted or burned no smoke, but a light smell of burn within the dryer area. She reloaded the dryer, it wouldn’t start. She called I ask her to check the breakers, they where all okay (had her flip them anyways). I ask to check the cord, okay. I had her unload the dryer and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Still nothing. I ask her to check the main home fuse, okay. So any ideas to what I can try next. I’m in Wisconsin she is in California. Thanks Mike:rolleyes:

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for General Electric DDE7900MAL Electric dryer | AppliancePartsPros.com

It would help if she could find the wiring diagram for the unit.
Sometimes it is pasted to the rear cover or stored in the control console.

GE likes to keep things a secret so I will not be able to find a wiring diagram and you have to determine it one of the thermostats is actually a thermal fuse in the motor circuit.

Next would be to actually check the power to the unit using a meter.

I am assuming that the unit does nothing.
If it hums when she tries to start it then odds are the motor is toast.

She could pull the unit apart and smell to see if the motor was the cause of the burning smell.
If yes then it could be toast.

Following is a good site with basic dryer repair hopefully it will help.
Perhaps check out the sample wiring diagrams in the GE section.
