Honestly I would do the whole thrust bearing kit. But it's your call I've been employer by an anonymous company for over 3 years now and we work on all types of machines and this is done very often.

could a drain hose be stopped up a little not allowing water to flow correctly

no kink, it was just a thought. i will look into the thrust bearing kit again and see what happens
