Is it difficult to replace the transmission on this Maytag washer Model number MAV8057AWW? Are there any special tools required? Are there any step by step instructions for this. Should there be any other parts replaced with replacing the transmission? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Depends why r you replacing? Is it not working or is it cause the bearings are shot? U need the tranny and new seal fornthe tub it can be pretty tuff. There's a special brake tool to remove the Brie spring safely and there's mother spring tool to help remove springs from the milk stool

with heavy load, spin cycle still leaves clothes/towels wet. Doesn't seem to spin dry fast enough. Already checked the thrust bearing and pulley, it was ok. Replaced the belt, still same problem. I thought all i needed was a spanner wrench for the nut for transmission.

Good point you need that tool too. I honestly would replace the thrust bearing kit because there's really no way to effectively ck it properly. Also make sure the motor is sliding freely and also make sure there's not a suds lock issue if there's Is to many suds it creates a drag and will not let it spin to optimal speed there'. Is a service flash for that on this machine

I looking to replace the trans/thrust kit, just wasnt sure what was all needed to complete this. I thought once I removed the nuts with the spanner wrench the transmission assembly would pull straight up without anything holding it back. i didnt see a service flash on this.

There is a service flash regarding the suds lock condition on this machine exactly what model number it is on idk but it deffintly does. I would start with the thrust bearing. Grammys don't like go bad and spin slower but they can have bearings go which are very loud or tranny gears break which again are very loud

there really isnt any noise with this, just doesnt spin fast enough. when i pulled the thrust bearing and pulley to see if the inner plastic place may had broke everything appeared to be ok. I had a new kit that as long as i didnt open it i could return it. So i match everything to the new kit and all seemed to look ok.

you mentioned the suds, this just started happening with the clothes/towels not spinning fast enough

Over time there can become a build up of detergent which causes it fill the machine up and see if there is suds without putting anything in it. Sounds silly but it creates enough speed to not spin properly. Again make sure the motor slides back and forth on the motor plate freely. The white helix piece wears down and doesn't pull the machine off the brake fully. This would be my guess without seeing it. If it runs properly just not spinning fast enough I deffitnyl think it is NOT the tranny or motor.

i checked the motor and it seems to slide ok. everything seems to work on the washer with the exception of the not spinning fast enough
