First off, the transmission is fine, the problem is that it doesn't properly engage the agitator. The bolt that connects the agitator to the transmission rotates back and forth just fine, but the agitator doesn't. I've tried several different types and combinations of lock washers and rubber washers under the bolt, all to no avail.
I can't find my model number, FWS5235RBS0 in any data base. Yes, I'm sure it's correct, I got it off the inside of the lid. The closest I can find is the FWS545 series.
Thanks,
Joseph

Joseph, The closest I can find is FWS235RBS0. I didn't see the number you posted on the frigidaire tech site.

Siiiiigh. I cannot tell you how many times I went back to the machine to make ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that I had the right model no. But you're right, that's it - FWS235RBS0. I was obviously reading the S and then reading it again as a 5. Anyway, the transmission is the same as the FWS545 series.
Any ideas as to what could be wrong?

Looking at the diagram for the transmission, it shows the hub as being a separate part. I THINK the hub is an embedded part of my agitator though I can't tell for certain. Is that possible? Are there teeth inside the agitator that the hub is supposed to engage or is it a press fit? If there are supposed to be teeth inside the agitator I don't see them so the hub may be stuck in there.

The hub goes into the agitator but it attaches to the tranny, if it's stuck in there that may be part of your problem. there are teeth insie the agitator. If the hub is stuck try to get it out and check the agitator to make sure the teeth are there and intact. If not you may need to replace both those parts and some of the other seals in that area. Nat

Thanks Nat. I think the problem is the teeth are OK but the inside of the hub is worn to the point that the shaft rotates inside it - that's the only way I can explain how it's behaving. I've gut a guy coming over with a new agitator and hub and we'll check it out then.

The problem is definitely the hub. I gently tapped it out of the agitator and it came out in several pieces!
Thanks,
Joseph
