It didn't seem rough when I was turning it. I wish I could clarify the noise I'm hearing. While not really a grind, it sounds like... I don't know. It's a noise that it shouldn't make, it makes me think somethings not engaging. I did buy a snubber (Because that's what you had mentioned earlier) but wonder whether it's worth the effort to put in. I'm not sure how to go about it. Don't I have to take off the bearings and seals on the spline and stuff?

All evidence points to a bad tranny, the Atlantis washer tranny's are prone to fail in this way.

I wouldn't mind so much if I were working, but things seem to go wrong at the worse times in life... Thanks so much for your help Rich, it's genuinely appreciated. Do you think it would it be worth the effort to install the new snubber since I have it?

Installing the snubber is a big job, you must pull the entire tranny and tub out and remove the brake housing.

 I am not having a very similar problem. My washer is about a year and a half old. My washer will fill up...will not agitate but if I wait about an hour I can successfully spin the water out. I noticed a loud hum coming from my washer that I had never hear before. So I ran in and turned it off. When I did, I opened it and there was smoke coming from the tub (only) and a foul smell kind of like burnt rubber. My father changed the belt. The smell is gone and no more smoke. BUT it will not agitate. My father will be coming over tomorrow again to look at it....what should he look for? Your help would be apprciated...expensive washer...not a lot of money here to replace it. THANKS!
