Hello, I have a Maytag Performa electric dryer that will not start. The main timer switch makes a very quiet buzzing sound when power is connected and the switch is turned to any one of the timed cycles. The single resistor in the back of the unit looks ok; could one of the temperature sensors be bad and cause the unit to not function?..do they act like fuses? I am a novice trying to save money so ANY help would be greatly appriciated! *All power connections look great with no burn damage, etc. *Breaker switch is operable and dryer is recieving power. *Included pics are of resistor and lower exhaust temperature sensor. Does the light inside the dryer turn On when the door is open?

Gene. Hi Gene! Thanks for the help...No, the light inside the dryer does NOT turn on. The bulb checks OK as well.

John, Looks like the thermal fuse (#5 on the diagram) is bad. It comes as a kit with the hi-limit thermostat. - The thermal fuse kit Part number: AP4242472

I love forums like this and friends like Gene. THe dryer is fixed! It was the secondary thermal fuse located under the heater power source. Total cost: about $27 after tax.

This thread of information was just what I needed. It described my problem exactly, so when I checked everything as suggested, I was able to determine that it was the fuse below the heater element. My replacement part cost $20, and the dryer is running just great. The cause of the whole issue was a clogged (packed) vent line at the base of the dryer door, which I saw when I took off the front cover. Thanks for the great information.

Was wondering if anybody can help me. I'm having a similar issue but the light does turn on when I open the dryer do. I borrowed a volt meter and checked the continuity of the thermal fuse and temp. fuse. Everything looked fine. Does anyone have suggestion? I'm a very novice at this... the volt meter was a suggestion from a co-worker.
