I recently washed a large cotton blanket which became very imbalanced in the tub. After adjusting it somewhat we left home and upon return the machine had failed to complete the cycle and there was a burning smell in the room. The washer will allow water to run in but the tub will not rotate on any cycle and will not do a final spin. I have located one of the vibration/shock absorbers to be broken.
I have not found any other problems otherwise, and have not done any diagnostic tests yet. Any suggestions?

Cannot really say if anything else is a problem, should not be but these are not the most reliable models ever built, and they don't like large blankets (laundromats do).
Anyway I would replace the shocks and see if that fixes things. If not, let us know the new status.

I replaced the schock absorbers and the washer still does not spin. It seems to be stuck in the spin cycle because the spin light remains on when it should be in the wash or rinse cycles. Also it appears that the timer is not moving normally

Check out the motor/speed control board as it fails often on these models, and the door lock assembly/wiring is can also cause your problem.

Thanks for your help. After I replaced the shock absorbers and the machine did not spin, I did a closer inspection and found that the tub had hit the timer housing and damaged the connection in the area where the main wires plug in. After straightening the damaged area and assuring a good connection, the machine is working fine!
