Our refrig will not stay cold. Noticed the freezer side frosted up and defrosting food. At first thought it was the grandkids didn't shut the door all the way or the ice dispenser flap sticking and not shutting. Unplugged it, cleaned all the coils let it sit for over 24 hours to make sure it was defrosted completely. Plugged it back in. Worked fine for about a day or two. Then once again, frosted up and frozen on the bottom inside the freezer side. Also noticed the ice maker was making ice and then stopped when it froze up. Unplugged it again, replugged it in, worked for another day or two, and there it was again this morning, warm on the refrig side, cool on the freezer side, but ice again on the coils?? in the the back of the freezer on the bottom and ice crystals on the top of the freezer in the back. Frustrating... any suggestions. This refrig was purchased in 2001. Thanks; Netty

Netty, Your refrigerator is having a defrost problem. Either call a repair man or if you want to try to fix it yourself we can help you thru that. Nat

Were you checking for continuity? There's a really good post about checking components on this site. Can you located the defrost timer? If so use a screw driver and advance the timer a little at a time until the unit shuts down and listen for ice popping from the heater. Nat

Hubby checked the thermostat with a OHM's meter and it had no reading. So we figured that was the problem....
