The clock currently shows the correct time. The knob to control the clock has fallen off. When you stick it on the bit generator shaft only makes the numbers change from one to zero; you can't change the time, nor set the timer (it'll go to 1, then ring).
We had a repairman out here who said we need a new clock and they don't make them anymore. But he never took the oven out to look at it.
Could we just use a new "bit generator shaft" or do we really need a new (unavailable) clock?

You might be able to get it repaired by a clock maker/repair company. Individual parts like that are not sold even to service companies. Although, your clock when available was expensive you might check on ebay or another auction place for one. Sometimes you can locate parts where someone had another issue and didn't want to repair it so they scrap them out. Not much help I know, but hopefully you can get it fixed. Nat
