I am not sure of the age of the side by side fridge. I bought it used about a month ago and it appeared to be working well. We plugged in and did not have water line for the icemaker. The fridge ran fine and made a sound like it was dropping ice about every hour or so even without the water line hooked up.About a week later, the sound stopped and so did the cooling. The freezer in moderately cool, about like medium fridge setting should be, nothing stays frozen, ice cream melts. Fridge is not cool at all. Motor seems to still be working. Any thoughts?

Check to make sure the fan in the freeezer is running also. It's possible the defrost system is not working either the adaptive defrost timer or the defrost thermostat, not likely to be the heater in your model if it is a defrost problem.

Remove the rear panel and use an ohm meter on the defrost thermostat, if it has continuity (while cold) then it's the adaptive def. timer.
Turn the unit off, or unplug i, use a hair dryer to thaw out the coils and order the part, that will keep you going good until part arrives.
