The heating element was burnt out so I replaced it. Put it all back together with the new one and it burnt out also. :mad: Any advice as to what could be causing this problem :confused:would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time in this matter. Thank you DM

How do you know that the second heater has burned out? Did you replace the heater assembly or just the heating coil? If they are shorting to the frame then you may have a coil mounting problem. I cannot think of anything else which could cause this. Overheating should not have blown it as the thermal cut-off, the hi-limit thermostat and the control thermostat would all have to be bad for this to occur. There is always a possibility that the replacement heater was defective. |

Denman, I thank you for your quick response. How did you determine that the first heater had burned out? It was visible, when I removed the dryer drum, the coil was visibly broken. How do you know that the second heater has burned out? The same way. Did you replace the heater assembly or just the heating coil? I replaced just the heating coil. If they are shorting to the frame then you may have a coil mounting problem. I checked this and it does not appear to be grounding out anywhere on the drum frame. I cannot think of anything else which could cause this. There is always a possibility that the replacement heater was defective. I took it back to the appliance parts place and they replaced it as defective. However, I replaced it again and it burnt again, I clearly have a situation and do not know what to do next. I checked for continuity of thermal cut-off, the high limit thermostat and the control thermostat they all tested OK . Without actually seeing the elements I am doing a lot of guessing.
If it is actually burning out then the hi-limit thermostat (Item 16 in Section 1) is probably faulty.
It should open at around 140 degrees F.
Try heating it up on a stove top element to see if it does open.
I use my solder gun to do the same thing.
If it does not open then it is allowing the heating coil to overheat.
This just tell you why the coil is breaking and you still have to find out why it is overheating.
Another possibility would be if there is a lot of vibration iin the unit. The heating coil is fairly soft when red hot so this may cause the problem. |
