I recently replaced the belt on this dryer and shortly afterwards this problem began. The dryer runs fine in timed mode but it will not stop running in the auto (moisture-sensing) mode. Based on some other discussions it sounds like it might be the sensor, or maybe the wiring to the sensor? How do I go about checking the sensor and the wiring?

Thanks,

Matt

Have you cleaned the moisture sensor?

The way it works is that moisture between the two metal strips provides a current path for a small current. The electronic board senses this and does not connect in the timer motor. When the clothes are dry there is no longer a current path so the board then powers the timer motor.
Any dirt etc. between the sensor bars will be a current path so the timer will not advance.

Try cleaning with a damp cloth, drying thoroughly after.
If that does nothing try isopropyl alcohol or electronics contact cleaner. Do not go crazy with it and make sure all the fumes have dissipated before starting up the unit.

You should be able to check it at the control board. I believe it is the yellow/red.
Disconnect it from the board and measure fron it to the machines frame.
Use the highest scale on your meter, it should be infinite ohms.
