I Have A Really Old Gibson Refrigerator (probably Around 30yrs Old) That I Use For A Second Refrigerator Down In My Basement. The Motor/compressor Is Working (it's Hot To The Touch) But The Freezer Compartment And Refrigerator Part Only Gets A Very Small Degree Of Cool... Milk Would Spoil In The Freezer Compartment If I Tried It...i'm Wanting To Try To Determine Whether It Needs Fixing Or Replacing Depending Upon The Cost To Fix...

Check the back of the freezer to see if there is a lot of frost or ice build up. If there is it's a defrost problem. Also check to see if the fan(s) is running. if possible try to locate the model number and some part numbers, I can maybe back track the model number if I had 2 or 3 part numbers off of main parts (i.e., compressor, thermostat, evaporator fan motor) nat

Hello LIBERTYAPPL.... I appreciate you helping me with this... I have to admit to you though I am a refrigerator repairman dummy... don't know much about them... As far as the fan, where is it located and how do I get to it? The model number of the Frig is FPCI 170T-7 Serial # 74AH 3233....

The model number doesn't pull up (please double check or if possible take a picture of the tag with the model & serial numbers and post it).....but, the fan is located in the back of the freezer, behind a covering plate with louvers. You should be able to hear the fan when you open the freezer. One easy way to check for a defrost problem is to turn the unit off or unplug it empy everything out, leave the doors open for 24-48 hours then shut the doors and plug it back in and see if it runs & cools. Nat

Hey Nat,
Now I feel like a total idiot...I was going by what my mother-in-law (she has Alzheimer's) told me the brand of Frig this is and when I went back to confirm the Model and Serial number I noticed this is a Frigidaire Brand... Sorry about that.... the Model number is FPCI 170T-7 and the Serial number is 74AH 3233... THANKS ROBERT

I still can not pull up the model number, so will try to help "wing" it. Did you check the fan in the freezer and check for ice/frost build up? You may have to remove the rear panel in the freezer to check it. Nat
