I have a 12 year old Whirlpool 11 - cycle wash machine.

As I was washing a load of laundry the machine sounded like it was off balance and I heard a type of snap noise (while spinning off balance for a split second) and thought I smelled something but it was hard to tell as I had my dryer on also.

I shifted the clothes and closed the lid and the "off balance" sound continued. I then took everything out and noticed that there was a lot of play with the agitator. The agitator is very loose but it still spins.

Im trying to figure out how to open the thing up first of all and how I go about examining the parts that may be in question.

Help would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks,
Kimberlie

Just to let you all know...The problem has been fixed!!

It was a screw that came out of one the springs that holds the wash basin. All is good!!

Thanks for all those who viewed my post in an attempt to help. :o)
