Replaced thermostat last month. When dryer is on, it will heat up and drum will turn, but in the back is a noise that sounds like a consistent grind or thump. On the top left, it seems excessively hot, not on the right, only on the left. Can't determine if it is a motor or belt. Please advise.

John,

The thump or grinding noise is most likely a worn out drum roller, bad spot on the belt, or idler pulley or a combination of any.

As for the top being hot on the left side, that is where your heater element is located, it also indicates it's time to check and clean the exhaust venting pipes and blower housing and filter area, you can do that when you dismantle the machine to check/replace the rollers, idler, and belt.

Do you have instructions on how to replace these parts?

John,

Here is an excerpt from the service manual,

Since you've replaced thr thermostat, I presume you know how to remove the top and front panel.

Once you've got the drum/belt removed, it's pretty much self explanatory.

Drum Removal / Roller / Glide Access

1. Disconnect power supply to unit.
2. Remove Top Cover and Front Panel, see “Top Cover /
Door Switch / Front Panel / Gasket Removal”
procedure.
3. Remove wires from light, see “Light Removal”
procedure steps 3 - 4.
4. Remove four screws on Front Bulkhead.
5. Remove belt from Idler Pulley.
6. Grasp the Drum with one hand and the belt with the
other. Lift the Drum and slide out the front. Carefully
spread the cabinet as needed to gain additional
clearance.

7. Rear Rollers and Glides can be serviced as needed.

Good Luck,

:) :) :)

I replaced the drum, was tedious, but done. Turned it on, and the noise is still there. There were no marks on the pulley's, didn't replace them. The noise is coming from the back left near the bottom, loud enough that you have to keep the doors closed. Can't really describe the noise, but it sounds like a pulley rubbing against metal to create the noise. Without calling in a repairman, any suggestions?

After more troubleshooting, the source of the noise is coming from the front motor below the drum. Can't tell where the vibration is coming from, but is there any bearings that wear out that need replacing?

John,

Did you replace the drum, or the drum rollers ?

If you replaced the rollers,

Did you check and clean the roller shafts ?

That.s the only thing in the left rear lower corner of the cabinet that would make the type of noise you're describing.

Other than a bad motor.

I didn't replace the drum or rollers, only the belt. Guess now we go to roller kit.

John,

Yes,

Go with the rollers, replace both,

Also, clean the roller shafts, with emory cloth or steel wool, and put a very light coat of high speed oil(3 in 1 oil),
Do the same on the idler pulley and shaft.

I'm pretty sure you'll be fine from there.
