After reading several fourms. My question is are all brands the same? I have a Maytag fridge The freezer side works fine. Fridge side is warm. I did notice frost on the back wall of the freezer & removed access panels .The coils were froze with ice. I than unplugged it to defrost coils Could the problom be the defrost on the freezer side?

Hi, Quote:My question is are all brands the same? Just about. :) This is how self defrosting refrigerators work. The only way the refrigerator side gets cold is from blowing air over from the freezer side. The coils in the freezer side that do get cold build up frost. Every so often the refrigerator will go into defrost. Turn the defrost heater on and defrost the coils. If the refrigerator stops going into defrost then the frost builds up so much on the coils in the freezer that it blocks the air flow to the refrigerator. With out any air flow to the refrigerator section it starts to get warmer. Sounds like you have a defrost problem with your refrigerator. There are three parts to the defrost system. Defrost Heater Defrost Thermostat Defrost Timer (maybe electronic control) I did not look your model up, but with many of the maytag models the defrost heater and thermostat come together in a kit so both get replaced at the same time.
