GE Monogram 42" Side-by-side Occasionally makes what I can describe as a machine-Gun tapping or vibrating sound for about 5 seconds randomly throughout the day and night.
It is not the fan, I see it spinning when the noise is not active.
Any Ideas?
Mike

Remove the top grille panel and locate the water inlet valve (#795 on the diagram). Very likely this sound comes from the water valve while the ice maker fills up with water. If this is correct then replace the water inlet valve. - The water inlet valve Part number: AP3192626

Gene,
Any way to single that item out. It is hard to tell if that is where the noise is coming from. It is still making the sound but more muffled.
Thanks, Mike

Mike,
I can not tell you what is wrong and what to do to fix it until you will find the source of it.
Gene.

Just unplug both connectors to it and see if the noise stops.

well, I un-plugged the connectors to the water valve and when I turned the breaker on to the fridge my wife said tthe first sound she heard was the machine gun sound but muffled.
The water does not dispense after I disconected the wires and I'm now waiting to hear the noise again.
I let you guys know if the refridgerator makes the noise again.

I guess it is not the water valve, I had the wires disconected for a few hours and I kept hearing the sound and I found it to not be random. The sound happens every 20 minutes, I hope this information may give a clue to one of you on possible solutions.
Thanks again for your help,
Mike

Probably a tubing rattle from loose compressor mounts, just remove back and check.
