Actually, I have no idea how old this dryer is because it came with the house we bought. But, while turning the dryer knob, I broke it. Ordered a new one online, thinking it would be easy to replace. I was wrong. The new one can and it looks exactly like the old one. I ordered it according to the dryer part number WE1x10082. But, it doesn't just snap back on.
Any help would be very great. Thanks

It can be a spring inside the knob and the old spring around the timer shaft. Otherwise it's just snaps on.

Thanks Gene,
I didn't notice a spring with the new knob or the old one. These knobs appear to fit onto a metal rod. Thanks,

I do not see anything else what can cause it.
