I have a Kenmore Side by Side Model # 106-57402600 of course warranty ended 2 months ago. My issue is the little door that opens and closes that ice comes thru the brackets to keep it in place is broken and it also is designed to keep warm air from entering freezer. I have tried to remove front face plate and cannot and notice from parts break down on Sears web page see below...
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/retrieveSubComponentPartsAction.action?diagramPageId=00007&componentDescription=DISPENSER%20FRONT%20PARTS&documentId=K0603005&modelNumber=10657402600&productCategoryId=0165000&brandId=0582&modelName=SIDE%20BY%20SIDE%20REFRIGERATOR&backToLink=Return%20to%20Sub%20Components#diagram
(Items 1 & 2) there are 2 screws hold face trim near top of drawing I cannot see a way to get that off. (I am great at breaking things and at $97.00 + for face plate I wanted to check other ideas). I cannot see any way to remove it from inside of the freezer door to get to these screws. I am at a lose to see what parts to order etc. # 7 Door mechanism or other parts. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Best Regards,
LG

Dear Gene: I am including the link to the schematic of my frig unit (if you copy and paste it should show all of it). http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/retrieveSubComponentPartsAction.action?diagramPageId=00007&componentDescription=DISPENSER%20FRONT%20PARTS&documentId=K0603005&modelNumber=10657402600&productCategoryId=0165000&brandId=0582&modelName=SIDE%20BY%20SIDE%20REFRIGERATOR&backToLink=Return%20to%20Sub%20Components#diagram. I have been able to remove the face and get inside due to your great help so far Thank You so much for helping. Remember how I told you I am good at breaking stuff. Well I was reattaching the pin (# 5) and spring (#4) and magnet looking wheel # 8 to the place it all goes on the door on base unit ( #1) and there are 2 plastic clips the one on the right side split open I am praying I can use some gorilla glue and reattach it in the morning. I must tell you the pin (5) on mine looks a dull nail. It was, I think it was placed backwards at the factory on my unit as the nail head side was on the right and I am unsure if that magnet looking wheel on a stick (that fell off a few days ago) was supposed to go on the (left side or right side) up against the back of the touch switch on the front plasic light bracket plate I cannot figure out which way what the switch purpose is. I am only guessing if I have the head of the pin the left the magnet looking thing cannot fall off and I will add a drop of glue on the other end to prevent from moving side to side in the future. I think the vibration of the ice cubes being crushed caused a vibration and the pin came off the clips and caused my entire door problems. I am only guessing. Am I way off? I will try to prevent others from using (crushed) in the future if I am able to correct this problem. In the mean time I have a lot of ice growing condensation and freezing up the base of the ice bucket I have stuffed a plastic bag in for the time being. I just want this done and see the wife smile ASAP. Thanks again for all of your help…

I had similar issue years ago and decided not to purchase Sears side by side by side ever again. The rather overbearing time to go service tech came out for what my wife and I thought would be a simple removal of old dispenser and replacement of new dispenser at factory costs. Not the case, for 10 minutes lip service and $80 dollar service charge , he gave us a quick explanation how to clean it and told us the dispenser is incorporated into the door and is not possible to be simply replaced, so skip it, pal. good luck.

Aloha, hey you know what, I was looking at the advice you gave some guy for the Whirlpool Ice maker. Seems as though I missunderstood you. I looked under the faceplate and voila! I seen the tabs. You know the way they designed this dog gone thing is so mickey mouse. The problem is the the hinge the pin rides on is so weak. So I removed the spring and that other thing with the o-ring in it and reinstalled everything and it seems to be working fine for now. Just so much Ice build up from all the outside humid air getting in and freezing. I am not working right now due to the economy so as soon as I get back on my feet I am going to purchase that part. It look's pretty expensive. It is that whole piece behind the control panel. Mahalo Gene I should have never questioned you.
