Try removing the wide metal strip under the control panel.

Yup, I think that is the key. But I can't figure out how to do it. It seems to be attached somehow that I can't see. I try pulling and prying but I get nowhere. I think there must be something I don't understand about that strip. I was hoping it would be something really obvious that I was missing.

Can you see the components from above by removing the sheet metal on top of the unit?
