My built-in oven is Inglis brand (which I believe is made my Whirlpool). It is very old, I would guess 20-30 years (came with the house).

It has stopped heating (both the top and bottom elements don't turn on). At first the little red light by the knob would flicker a bit at the lower temperatures but now even that doesn't happen. The oven light and rotisserie thing still work.

I read the article on testing for continuity but am concerned that it may be a waste of time if parts are no longer available for this model.

The trouble is I'm not sure of the model number. On the broiler element is written T1-20434-001 and LR1512 but I can't seem to match this up with anything. There is nothing written anywhere else that I can see.

Can you tell me if you think that parts are available for this or what the model number might be?

I would like to fix it because it seems like finding a new oven that fits in this hole is going to be tough.
THanks.

First, turn the power off at the fuse box or breaker. Then, remove, or disconnect the elements and test them for continuity, to make sure that is the the problem. If they still have ontinuity, the problem is elsewhere. Fully describe the terminal connections, and give measurements from terminal to terminal. We can then look to see if a suitable replacement is available.

When I tested the bake element it said OL. Does that mean the element is the problem?
I noticed on the bake element it says:
Kirkdale B94CT330
Thanks again.

OL means, "open load". That translates to a bad element. We'll try to find a suitable replacement. Did you have a chance to measure the distance between the terminals of your element?

Okay. I've done some more working and thinking on this. First I realized that I had tested the element wrong and it is okay. Then I found the model number: WO24EC. Then I figured it was the thermostat so I bought a new one.

So my latest puzzle is how to remove the old thermostat. I've taken off the trim and removed the top and back in order to access the wire for the thermometer to go into the back of the oven.
I still can't remove the thermostat. It seems to be attached to a front plate but I can't figure out how. I try to remove the faceplate but that is mysteriously attached too.

I removed the trim that goes all the way around the front but then the whole front pulls off including the entire thermostat mechanism. I can't figure out how to get the old thermostat out or get that faceplate off. It is like a rubiks cube or something.

I have attached a photo but I can put more on a website or something if that would help.
Thanks a lot,
Marie

The part number that I want to install is OT6412-201 if that helps.

You have chosen arguably the most difficult task for your oven. It needs to come out of the hole, and panels have to come off to expose the routing of the capilsry tube attached to the thermostat. Then your replacement thermostat has to follow the same pathway to go in. That's as far as I can go; I have no experience with your model.

Don't despair: I'm not the only expert contributor on this forum. Good luck with it.

Thanks for responding.
I have taken it out of the hole, removed the panels, found the capillary tube and pulled it through. The roadblock is how to get that old knob/control off. So I've come so close it would be frustrating to have to call a technician now. (Plus I can amaze the other Mom's at my kid's kindergarten with my oven repair powers.)

The knob should pull off from the front of the control panel. Usually that exposes a screw (or sometimes two) that holds the switch to the panel. Look for screws around the edges of the conteol panel that hold it to the oven chassis. They are usually smaller than the screws that hold the sheet metal panels on; and they're normally Philips-head screws.

Thanks again. I've taken out every screw I can see. I think the metal piece that runs across the oven right under the panel is the key. I've taken off a trim piece that partially covered it. It seems like the only logical thing that could come off next but I can't tug it off (I've pulled pretty hard) and I don't see any more screws.

I have a couple more photos in case that helps.
