I could not find a manual for your specific model but the following may be close. 16025629 Maytag Amana Bottom Mount Refrigerator Service Manual - ApplianceDigest.com You may have to join the site but it is free and is a great site for appliance info. The defrost thermostat can be checked by holding the metal face on an ice cube. Also if it looks bulged/deformed replace it even if it read OK on your meter. Here is the defrost thermostat Part number: AP4078076 Click on the picture for more info. Does look like you will have to splice it in. I would use the ceramic/hard plastic type wire nuts. They are more heat resistant. Once spliced in position them away from the heater and facing down so that water cannot enter them. Some techs like to seal the open end with caulking.
