My Frididaire side by side (36X68) is currently at the repair shop. They can't find anything wrong, as it is currently working. It is moody, as it works for a period of up to two month, then it defrosts and spoils the contents. A couple days later it works again. It is in a vacation home and the occupants are not there to frequently, to monitor it exactly. This has happened three times already. Previously there was a frost build up in the lower part of the freezer, which was repaired. The service guy is at a loss as what to do. I did hear it cycle on, had a humm for about ten seconds and then it shut off.
Does anyone have any idea as to what might be the problem?
Thanks a lot on advance!

Of coarse these are the hardest things to diagnose, but I would lean twards a floating restriction in the sealed system. These restrictions can show up as you describe. I have an amana sxs in my garage, and last year I had this happen to me. It would work fine for a month or 2 and then start defrosting all my meat, then refreeze as nothing was wrong. I evacuated the system, put a vacuum pump on it for a day, new filter dryer and recharged it. To this day it is working great.

Thanks for getting back to me this quick. Will give this to the service dept, its worth a try to get it fixed. Our renterw lost their deer meat twice and are'nt too happy! Might have to get a new one and keep this one in my gartage too! Having a hard time around here (Wisconsin Dells)to find a 68" height, they seem to be over 69" now.
Thanks again!

Any rough idea what this would cost? It is in the shop now.
Thanks
