This close to Thanksgiving and NOW it wants to die ... arghhhh. HELP!!! My Caloric gas range (Heritage Series) (with electronic ignition) oven started acting funny recently. About a month ago, we started hearing clicking like it was trying to spark but then it would quit so we left it alone. Now, when we turn on the oven, the pilot light ignites, and after a few minutes the oven lights, but as soon as we close the oven door, you can hear the gas dying down and it shuts off, until you open the oven door and it lights back up like a champ. What's going on ... I need a hero, how can I fix this in time for Thanksgiving, or is all hope lost?

MS Dredd,

I would be more secure in assisting you, if I had a proper Model Number.

Sounds like you have a "secondary pilot" system.

The spark module clicks and lights the pilot,
The pilot thermo couple heats and activates the gas valve,
The thermostat controls the whole sytem.

My best educated guess at this point would be :

You have a bad thermocouple and bake burner valve.

When you open the oven door, you allow more air into the oven, and get a better fuel air mixture, and the flame and operation seem to work correctly.

We really need a model number to assist you further and better.

:) :) :)

Thanks for responding, I appreciate your help soooo much. I found the model number but it was kind of hard to read, but I think it is, RL9370-UL or it could be RL93T0-UL. Hard to read, the 9 could be a G. Thanks so much again!!!:D

Ms Dredd,

I was still unable to find the model number, you supplied.

But, I used the closest model number, I could find, using the ignition system, I described.

I believe these are the parts for your unit to make the repair.

Part number: AP4286973
Part number: AP4286973

Part number: AP83984
Part number: AP83984

Good Luck,

:) :) :)
