Hi.

Searched through a lot of posts regarding my problem, but never really found a resolution.

The ice cubes coming out of the ice maker are very small and hollow. Looks like I'm just not getting enough water to go into the tray. I took the ice maker out along with the fill tube in the freezer compartment and fill cup and made sure they were clear of ice (the tube had a little in it, but not enough to stop any water.)

What mechanism is responsible for allowing the water to flow into the fill cup? I can hear that operation occur, but it seems like it is less time than before (of course, that would make it so less water would come into the tray.)
I don't have any filter between the outside water and the door water works just fine. After the freezer did that tray fill operation, I put some more water in the cup manually and the cubes came out fine.

Thanks.

Since you put water in and they came out fine, I would say your water valve may be bad. A normal fill should be 6 seconds. The ice maker will call for water 2 more times if it does not have enough water from the first fill.

Because of the age of the refer, pull the refer away from the wall, take off the rear access cover, and inspect the water lines for cracks. You may have a crack in the ice line that you wont see till you pull it out. This will cause hollow cubes as well.

- I don't hear the ice maker call for water again after the first fill. What mechanism exists to actually measure the incoming water and ask for more?
- I also don't see any cracks in the water lines anywhere.
Thanks.

Problem fixed.
I finally noticed a bit of water under the fridge when I happened to move it. Looked down by the water inlet value and noticed some moisture on the side foam panel. Took the nut off the ice maker side of the value, and low and behold the tube was actually cracked right inside that nut. The water was leaking at that point and dropping into the evap pan on the bottom of the fridge I guess, because there wasn't any water under the fridge.
So, took the tube out, cut it about an inch back nice and straight, inserted back into the nut and value, and everything works great now.
Thanks for all of your help.
